A 27-year-old mother has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide after her husband and three-year-old son were allegedly stabbed to death at the Great Wolf Lodge resort in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains.
Metallica Rose Harrison, of Towanda, was found injured in the doorway of a guest room at the resort in Scotrun after police were called shortly after 3pm on Monday, October 12.
Pocono Township Police said Harrison had contacted emergency dispatchers and told them she needed help committing suicide. Officers entering the room found an adult man and a three-year-old boy dead inside.
The adult victim was identified as Charles Harrison, Metallica Harrison’s husband. The child’s name has not been publicly released.
Investigators allege that both victims were killed in the room. Harrison was taken to St Luke’s Hospital’s Monroe County campus for treatment of what police described as self-inflicted injuries.
Court documents state that she later asked paramedics about ways to harm herself. She allegedly told investigators: “It wasn’t supposed to end like this. I was supposed to have my happy family.”
Police said the family had checked into room 2030 at the Great Wolf Lodge on September 21 and had extended their stay. Surveillance footage showed them entering the room together on the evening of October 11, after which Harrison and her husband were seen briefly visiting the resort’s arcade.
Investigators believe that was the last time anyone entered or left the room before police arrived the following afternoon.
Harrison remains under police custody and is due to appear before Magisterial District Judge Daniel Kresge. The investigation is continuing.
Pocono Township Police described the incident as an isolated domestic tragedy and said there was no threat to the wider community.
