Ellie Watkins has offered an upbeat update on her family’s new life in Saudi Arabia, saying “things are coming together” after previously becoming tearful over the move from Birmingham.
The wife of England striker Ollie Watkins relocated to Riyadh with the Al-Hilal forward and their two children following his transfer from Aston Villa.
Ellie had earlier described the move as bittersweet, having spent six years at Villa while building a home and close friendships in the West Midlands. She also said the couple’s children were born during that period.
Despite her initial sadness, she expressed excitement about starting again in Saudi Arabia and said the change of scenery could be a positive experience for the family, particularly the children.
Watkins completed a three-year move to Al-Hilal at the end of August after leaving Aston Villa, where he became the club’s record Premier League goalscorer.
His transition to Saudi football was swift. The 30-year-old scored on his Al-Hilal debut in a 3-0 victory over Al-Ahli in Riyadh, adding an early highlight to the family’s new chapter.
Ellie has also shared photographs and messages marking the end of their time at Villa, describing it as an important period in their lives while looking ahead to their future in Saudi Arabia.
