A 29-year-old motorcyclist has died after his Suzuki collided with a Jeep Gladiator at an intersection in Melbourne, Florida, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened at County Road 511 and Pummelo Street when the Jeep, driven by a 25-year-old Melbourne man, was stopped in the northbound lane and attempted to turn left.
Investigators said the Jeep moved into the path of the southbound 2007 Suzuki SV650. The motorcyclist was travelling above the posted speed limit and tried to brake before the collision.
The right-hand side of the Jeep struck the right-hand side of the motorcycle. The Jeep driver was not injured and remained at the scene, according to the highway patrol.
The motorcyclist was taken to Melbourne Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. The Florida Highway Patrol has not said whether any charges will be filed.
