Andrew Johns and Brad Fittler have delivered their predictions ahead of the final round of the NRL regular season, with the New Zealand Warriors and Penrith Panthers locked in a close battle for the minor premiership.
Both sides sit on 40 competition points, with the Warriors holding a one-point advantage in points difference. The result means even a convincing victory in Round 27 could prove decisive in determining who finishes top of the ladder.
The Warriors face Manly at Go Media Stadium in Auckland on Saturday, September 5, while Penrith meet Wests Tigers at CommBank Stadium the following day.
New Zealand are chasing only their second minor premiership, having last finished first in 2002. Coach Andrew Webster has named a strong side for the match, including the return of fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad from suspension and halves Te Maire Martin and Chanel Harris-Tavita after hamstring injuries.
Hooker Wayde Egan and back-rower Kurt Capewell have been rested, but the Warriors’ selection still reflects the importance of securing the best possible finish before the finals.
Penrith have also retained a powerful line-up for their clash with the Tigers. Mitch Kenny returns at hooker, while captain Isaah Yeo has been included among the reserves as he continues his recovery from a pectoral injury.
