Randy Quaid has urged Tom Cruise to reconsider Anne Hathaway’s casting in the forthcoming Days of Thunder sequel and bring back Nicole Kidman instead.
Quaid, 75, who appeared in the original 1990 racing film alongside Cruise and Kidman, made the appeal on X after the sequel was announced.
“We need Nicole back,” he wrote. “The sexy older chick for Tom in this film needs to be Nicole. That’s the casting that would sell the idea.”
Cruise is set to reprise his role as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle, with Hathaway playing a team owner and engineer. The film is scheduled for release by Paramount Pictures on 2 June 2028.
The project was unveiled by Cruise and Hathaway at Daytona International Speedway in Florida on 29 August. Cruise is also producing the sequel alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper, while Jonathan Levine is directing a script by Will Staples.
The original film introduced Cruise to Kidman, then a relatively unknown actress. The pair married six months after its release, before Cruise filed for divorce in 2001, citing irreconcilable differences.
Kidman has not been announced as part of the sequel’s cast. Quaid’s comments have therefore revived interest in whether the former couple could appear together on screen again, more than three decades after they first played romantic leads in Days of Thunder.
