Protests over an alleged gang rape involving a former Cornell University student were held in New York, Washington, Los Angeles and Tucson on Thursday, as demonstrators called for justice for sexual-violence survivors.
The case centres on a lawsuit brought by the woman, identified as Jane Doe, who alleges that seven Chi Phi fraternity members sexually assaulted her in October 2024 after giving her ketamine.
In Tucson, protesters chanted, “no more silence, no more crimes”, while marching with signs reading, “Unite Against Sexism and Racism”.
Demonstrators in New York gathered in Lower Manhattan, where one woman said the movement would secure justice for survivors of sexual violence.
Protests were also held in Washington and Los Angeles, with people displaying signs and delivering speeches about the case.
The seven men have categorically denied the allegations. The Tompkins County District Attorney’s Office declined to prosecute, saying the evidence indicated the sex was consensual.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has since appointed state Attorney General Letitia James to conduct a second investigation into the case and examine whether anything was missed during the initial probe.
