Arda Güler has reportedly agreed a new contract with Real Madrid that would keep him at the Bernabéu until 2031, ending hopes of a summer move for the highly rated midfielder.
The 21-year-old had attracted interest from Arsenal and Manchester after struggling to establish himself as a regular in the Real Madrid side. However, his position at the Spanish club appears to have strengthened in recent weeks.
Arda Güler’s new contract at Real Madrid
Güler’s new deal was reported by TeamTalk as José Mourinho continues to reshape the squad following his return to Real Madrid. There had been speculation that the playmaker’s style might not suit the manager, leaving his long-term future uncertain.
Those doubts have been eased by the role Güler has begun to play. He came off the bench in Real Madrid’s comeback victory over Roma, providing two assists as his side recovered from 3-1 down to win.
The performance further underlined his value to Mourinho, even though he has not yet become a regular starter. Güler is also understood to be a major favourite of club president Florentino Pérez, adding to the expectation that he will remain in Madrid.
With a contract reportedly extending to 2031, the remainder of the season could provide Güler with an opportunity to cement his place as an important member of the Real Madrid team.
