Rumer Willis has filed an emergency custody request seeking to keep her former partner Derek Richard Thomas’s visits with their three-year-old daughter supervised, alleging that he has breached court orders and made unsafe decisions while caring for the child.
According to court documents reported by TMZ, Willis is asking a judge to prevent the supervised arrangement from ending while their custody dispute continues. She is also seeking to block overnight visits until a hearing takes place.
Willis claims Thomas’s supervised contact began on 20 June but that he completed only five and a half visits because of disagreements over the nannies appointed to oversee his time with their daughter, Louetta. She alleges that one approved nanny became unavailable because of health problems and that Thomas subsequently rejected replacement supervisors.
The filing alleges that Thomas refused on one occasion to allow a court-ordered supervisor into his home. Willis also claims he left the supervising nanny with Louetta during a Fourth of July parade and later prevented her from entering an Airbnb where he was staying with the child. Further allegations concern what Willis describes as poor safety decisions. She claims Thomas considered crossing a five-lane road with a 55mph speed limit while accompanied by Louetta and chose to walk about two and a half miles in extreme heat rather than hire a car.
Willis is asking for supervised visitation to continue pending a court-ordered custody evaluation, and for overnight contact to remain prohibited until the court has considered the matter. The filing reportedly includes statements from three nannies and communications relating to the disputed visits. Thomas has previously denied allegations concerning his conduct and accused Willis of interfering with his relationship with their daughter. In court documents, he described claims that he had endangered Louetta as “materially false and misleading”, according to TMZ. In June, Willis was granted primary physical custody of Louetta, while she and Thomas retained joint legal custody. The existing order provided for initially monitored visits, with the possibility of moving to overnight contact without supervision.
