Aryna Sabalenka arrived at the US Open in New York wearing more than 127 carats of coloured gemstones, with her latest bespoke jewellery suite valued at over £295,000 as she began her bid for a third successive title.
The world No 1’s necklace, bracelet and earrings were created by New York jeweller Material Good, which has worked with the Belarusian across all four Grand Slam tournaments this season.
The collection was designed around the energy and diversity of New York, with the stones intended to reflect the city’s multicultural character. It combines sapphires, tourmalines, garnets, zircons, spinels, chrysoberyls and tanzanite, all set in 18-carat yellow gold.
The necklace accounts for 83.20 carats, while the matching bracelet contains 28.36 carats. The earrings, which can be worn with or without their drop jackets, take the total to 127.14 carats.
Material Good’s head of design, Atara Lev, described the US Open suite as the brand’s boldest yet. The pieces were designed to make an impact without restricting Sabalenka’s movement on court.
The jeweller said particular attention was paid to the weight, length and flexibility of each item. Sabalenka’s bracelet was made to avoid sliding up and down her arm, while the earrings can be shortened to studs if required during play.
Sabalenka first showed off the collection during a mixed-doubles appearance with Novak Djokovic on 25 August. She has since carried the colourful look into the tournament as she attempts to add another US Open crown to the titles she won in 2024 and 2025.
The partnership began after Sabalenka visited Material Good’s boutique in New York. In January, the company announced that she had become its first jewellery ambassador.
Her Grand Slam pieces have been tailored to their surroundings: garnets were used for Roland Garros in a nod to the Paris clay, while emeralds featured prominently in her Wimbledon jewellery to echo the Championships’ grass courts.
On Monday, 31 August, Sabalenka opened her singles campaign against Colombia’s Camila Osorio on Arthur Ashe Stadium. The official US Open site said the top seed was seeking a third consecutive championship, having won her previous 23 Grand Slam first-round matches.
