The Alvarez vs M’billi world title fight will go ahead in Riyadh on October 31 despite deadly attacks on Saudi Arabia’s airports, promoter Turki Al-Sheikh has said.
Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is scheduled to face WBC super-middleweight champion Christian M’billi in the Saudi capital, where 14 people have been killed in two days of attacks.
One person died and 11 were injured on Sunday after a projectile struck King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, according to Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation.
A Houthi strike on the same airport on Saturday killed 13 people and injured more than 300, making it the deadliest attack on Saudi Arabia in more than a decade.
The Houthis claimed responsibility for four strikes on Saudi airports before Sunday’s incident, which has not been claimed by any group.
Al-Sheikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, said Alvarez had contacted him and remained committed to the bout.
“Canelo reached out and told me he’ll still fight in Riyadh this October, no matter what happens,” Al-Sheikh wrote in a social media post. “He [Alvarez] fears nothing.”
Alvarez, a Mexican former two-time undisputed super-middleweight champion who has held multiple world titles across several weight classes, has not fought since losing to American Terence Crawford in September 2025.
