Scottie Scheffler produced a decisive final-round comeback at East Lake Golf Club on Sunday to win the Tour Championship and claim his second FedEx Cup title.
The American began the day three shots behind Viktor Hovland but carded a four-under-par 66 to finish at 16 under for the tournament, three strokes clear of the Norwegian.
Scheffler’s recovery began on the 211-yard second hole, where a five-iron finished just two inches from the cup. He drew level with Hovland with a 25-foot birdie putt at the fourth before moving ahead for good on the 13th.
Two bogeys did little to derail him as he became the only player among the final three groups to break par. He then created further breathing space with an 11-foot birdie from a fairway bunker on the 16th.
Hovland closed with a level-par 72 to finish alone in second place and collect $5 million. Ryan Gerard, who started one shot off the lead, double-bogeyed the opening hole but followed it with 13 consecutive pars to shoot 72 and finish third.
Scottie Scheffler moves beyond Tiger Woods on earnings list
The victory earned Scheffler $10 million from the $40 million purse and lifted his career earnings to $130,390,661. That moved him past Tiger Woods, who had held the top spot on the PGA Tour’s career money list for almost 26 years.
“Coming from behind and being able to win tournaments is a really cool feeling,” Scheffler said during the trophy presentation.
It was his third PGA Tour victory of the 2026 season and the 22nd of his career. He also won the FedEx St Jude Championship earlier in the post-season, having started the year with victory at The American Express.
Scheffler first captured the FedEx Cup in 2024. He now joins Woods and Rory McIlroy as the only players to have won the season-long competition more than once.
The result also extended Scheffler’s record of success in emphatic victories, with 13 of his 22 PGA Tour wins coming by at least three strokes. The final voting for the Jack Nicklaus Award, which decides the PGA Tour player of the year, has yet to be announced; Scheffler has won the award for the past four consecutive years.
