Swansea City are set to sign Manchester City winger Jeremy Monga on a season-long loan, with the 17-year-old due to undergo a medical before Tuesday’s 23:00 BST transfer deadline.
The agreement will see Monga move to the Championship club until the end of the campaign, with no option for Swansea to buy him. He is expected to return to Manchester City next summer.
Monga came through Leicester City’s academy and made his senior debut for the Foxes aged 15 during the 2024-25 season. He went on to make 30 Championship appearances last term before joining City on a five-year contract earlier this summer.
The England Under-19 international also made history at Leicester, becoming the youngest goalscorer in Championship history when he scored in a 2-1 defeat by Preston North End in August last year.
Manchester City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, described Monga as an “exciting player” when the club completed his signing and said the teenager had “already made huge strides in his young career”.
The move to Swansea has been approved by City manager Enzo Maresca, with the Welsh club viewed as a suitable environment for Monga to continue his development. Vitor Matos’ side have taken seven points from their opening three league matches this season, including a 3-0 win over Derby County on Saturday.
Monga’s arrival is expected to coincide with the departure of Finland international Leo Walta, who is set to join Major League Soccer side Los Angeles.
Walta joined Swansea from Swedish club Sirius on loan in February before completing a permanent move in the summer. He made 10 league appearances during the closing stages of last season and scored in a 3-1 victory over Charlton Athletic on the final day.
His only league appearance this term came as a late substitute in the opening-day win at Stoke City. He was not included in the matchday squad for the victory at Derby.
Swansea have already strengthened their wide options this summer with the additions of Elijah Just, Moussa Yeo and Joseph Opoku, but Monga’s arrival would provide another highly rated attacking option for Matos.
