Sydney Sweeney and Marilyn Monroe are ninth cousins, once removed, according to a study of their family trees by MyHeritage.
The connection links the two American actresses through a shared ancestor from the 17th century, adding a genealogical detail to long-running comparisons between their appearances and old Hollywood image.
Their family trees meet through Ezra Perry, an early settler in Sandwich, Massachusetts, who died in 1689.
Sweeney’s father, Steven Sweeney, and Monroe’s father, Charles Stanley Gifford, are both descendants of Perry.
The finding comes after Sweeney has been compared with Monroe because of her blonde appearance, styling associated with classic Hollywood and her high-profile relationships.
MyHeritage has previously identified another connection between famous names, determining that Friends co-stars Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox are also distant cousins.
