Democratic US Senate candidate James Talarico is due to launch a North Texas campaign swing on Sunday, 18 October, with a rally in Plano as he begins the final phase of his statewide “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts” tour.
The event is scheduled for 5pm at Red Tail Pavilion, where doors will open at 3.30pm. It will mark the first of 20 planned stops across Texas as Talarico seeks to build support ahead of the November election.
The campaign will continue on Monday, 19 October, with a rally at the University of North Texas in Denton at 1pm, followed by an evening event in Fort Worth at 7pm.
Talarico’s campaign has described the tour as an effort to bring together voters from across the state. In a statement announcing the schedule, he said Texans were tired of being divided by political and geographical labels and that he wanted to unite working people “onto one team”.
The North Texas focus comes after what the campaign described as a record fundraising quarter and a recent town hall appearance. The region includes some of the state’s largest population centres and will be a key battleground in the contest against Republican opponent Ken Paxton.
The latest University of Texas/Texas Politics Project poll, conducted between 25 September and 5 October, put Talarico on 50 per cent among likely voters, compared with 47 per cent for Paxton. The three-point difference was within the survey’s margin of error of 3.34 percentage points.
The poll was based on 861 likely voters drawn from a wider sample of 1,200 registered voters. It indicates a closely fought Senate race as Talarico begins the final stretch of his campaign across Texas.
