Pedro Porro’s Tottenham future has become uncertain, with the Spain international reportedly considering a return to La Liga despite signing a contract extension with the club until 2031 this summer.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are both understood to be monitoring the 27-year-old right-back, with Madrid increasingly alert to the possibility of a deal.
Barcelona and Real Madrid track Pedro Porro
Cadena SER reports that Porro is open to returning to Spanish football after Tottenham’s difficult start to the season altered the outlook around his future.
Barcelona are understood to have made contact with the player’s representatives. Porro is reportedly attracted by the prospect of joining Lamine Yamal, with the pair having impressed together for Spain at the World Cup.
Real Madrid are also interested in the defender. The club had monitored Porro previously before signing Denzel Dumfries, but doubts over their options at right-back have brought the Tottenham player back into consideration.
Barcelona is believed to be Porro’s preferred destination, although he would not rule out a move to Real Madrid.
Tottenham face fight to retain key attacking outlet
Porro has established himself as one of Tottenham’s most productive attacking full-backs, with his crossing, energy and ability to create opportunities from deeper positions making him difficult to replace.
His team-mate Pape Matar Sarr has described him as a “great player” and said: “For me, he’s in the top five right-backs in the world.”
Tottenham’s poor start under Roberto De Zerbi has added to the uncertainty. Continued struggles near the bottom of the table could encourage players of Porro’s quality to consider alternatives.
Porro’s long-term contract gives Spurs a strong negotiating position and would mean any potential transfer is likely to be expensive. However, if Barcelona and Real Madrid maintain their interest, Tottenham may have to persuade him that the club’s project is moving in the right direction or risk losing an important player.
