Elon Musk reportedly ordered a slowdown of Starlink connections in Ukraine last week, disrupting the country’s military internet service and leaving some Ukrainian drones virtually useless.
The restrictions are said to have affected Ukraine’s defences, with the slowdown causing connections to become so limited that operators struggled to use some drones.
The move came amid growing frustration from Mr Musk and Donald Trump over Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refineries. Mr Trump has blamed those strikes for rising energy prices.
It remains unclear whether the US president knew about the decision before it was taken. Mr Musk is reported to have discussed the slowdown with Mr Trump, although the president has said he does not know who ordered it.
Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that the restrictions could cost Ukrainian lives, while his government is seeking answers over the decision.
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Pentagon did not order the restrictions, leaving questions over who authorised the Starlink slowdown.
