A woman was shot by NYPD officers after allegedly attacking two people with a knife in Times Square on Monday afternoon.
Police were called to the area of West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue shortly after 4.25pm following reports of a person being stabbed. Officers then confronted the woman near a police substation, according to the NYPD.
Witnesses said she was carrying large knives and was ordered to put them down. When she failed to comply, officers opened fire, striking her several times.
The woman, who has not been named, was taken to hospital in a critical condition. The two stabbing victims – a man and a woman – were also transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, ABC7 New York reported.
The NYPD said the incident remained under investigation and warned of road closures, traffic delays and disruption to public transport around Times Square.
