A child was struck by a vehicle that then crashed into a store at the Limestone Marketplace shopping centre in Gainesville, Georgia, on Wednesday, October 7, prompting a major emergency response.
Gainesville police said the collision involved both a pedestrian and a building at the plaza, which includes a Publix supermarket. The child was taken by air ambulance to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, although their condition has not been disclosed.
The damaged premises was identified as Big Peach Running Co. The shop said it would remain closed while the damage was assessed and plans for reopening were considered.
Emergency crews remained at the shopping centre as investigators worked to establish how the crash happened. Police have not released details about the driver’s condition or said whether any charges are expected.
