A food bank volunteer has drawn widespread attention online after appearing to take a brisk, practical approach while showing the Duchess of Sussex how to pack a donation bag during Harry and Meghan’s visit to Nottingham.
The exchange took place at Himmah, a food poverty action group visited by the couple as part of their charity engagements in the city.
Footage posted on X shows the volunteer holding up a bag beside a crate of baked beans and telling Meghan that the task was “not very difficult”.
When Meghan asked whether she should go to “another station”, the woman shook her head and instructed her to take the bag and follow her.
The volunteer’s matter-of-fact manner quickly made her an unexpected focus of social media discussion, with some viewers questioning the Duchess’s series of questions during the demonstration.
One post said: “It’s wild how she doesn’t understand how an operation of that kind works.” Another described the interaction as “all performative so that the cameras get it all”, adding: “Nothing more than a glorified presenter.”
The visit also featured an emotional reunion between Harry, Meghan and four women who had cooked for grieving families following the Grenfell Tower fire.
The couple hugged, kissed and held hands with the women, who had helped feed families affected by the 2017 tragedy in which 72 people died.
The Nottingham engagements formed part of a series of royal-style appearances by the Sussexes in the East Midlands, marking their first joint appearance in the UK since returning to the country.
