Amanda Seyfried and Dominic Cooper have reunited at the Hamptons International Film Festival, 15 years after ending their relationship. The pair, both 40, were in New York to promote new projects.
Seyfried said the meeting marked their “first time in a long time” seeing one another. The actors met while filming the musical Mamma Mia, in which they played the young couple Sophie and Sky, and dated for three years.
Speaking about their relationship, Seyfried said: “Our lives are very different. We live in very different places and I just have nothing but good feelings about him.”
She added: “When you’re with somebody for a long time when you’re younger, it just kind of evolves into this familial, nice, soft kind of bond. It’s nice to see him. Also, I’m just grateful for him.”
Seyfried also described Cooper as “hilarious” and said their relationship had naturally changed over time.
“It’s funny, relationships, friendships, they always evolve. It’s just so crazy that as we get older, you just want to be kind if you can,” she said. “Especially if you had a friendship like that, I think it’s amazing, and I feel really lucky.”
Seyfried recently split from her husband, Thomas Sadoski, after nine years of marriage. Cooper is in a relationship with Gemma Chan.
The former couple later worked together again in the 2018 sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. A third film in the series is the subject of rumours.
