Augusta Abalones ended a 30-year wait for an Onshore Cup premiership with a tense two-point victory over Busselton Bombers in Saturday’s grand final.
The Abalones held on to win 4.10 (34) to 1.8 (32), securing their first title in three decades after a closely fought contest that went down to the final siren.
Augusta entered the match as minor premiers, while Busselton were attempting to claim a fifth consecutive premiership in the competition.
The result sparked jubilant scenes among the home support, with Augusta club president Paul Canny describing the atmosphere as “electric”, according to ABC reporting.
Supporters began arriving near the ground on Friday evening, with parking areas around the venue reportedly full by Saturday morning as the town prepared for the decisive match.
Instead, it was the Abalones who prevailed, breaking their long premiership drought and denying the Bombers another Onshore Cup title.
