A body has been discovered in the search for one of two missing hillwalkers in the Highlands. Police said the family of 36-year-old Adam Chalmers, who was reported missing while hillwalking in the Ben Lawers mountain range, have been informed. The SNP will never slash Scotland’s runaway £7billion benefits bill, the finance secretary said yesterday. Jenny Gilruth was branded ‘out of touch’ after signalling she would rather slash all other areas of public spending before tackling the country’s bloated welfare bill. Dozens of firefighters are tackling an enormous fire in east London which has left a tube service severely delayed.  Video footage posted to social media shows dark smoke billowing into the air over an aggressive fire near Hackney Downs Station on Sunday evening. Eight fire engines and 60 firefighters have rushed from stations across to east London to fight the blaze, which erupted on Cottrill Gardens. A static caravan and two cars have been engulfed by the fire, the London Fire Brigade said, as well as part of a grass embankment. A schoolgirl has been left paralysed below the neck after catching the flu. Lexi Brown, 14, fell ill in December last year with a temperature and dizziness – but rang her mother a few days later screaming in pain. Parents and retailers could face prosecution amid a surge in children injured in electric scooter crashes, police have warned. Police Scotland say buyers are responsible for being aware of the law and the implications when e-scooters are ridden illegally on roads or pavements. They say enforcement action can be taken against riders and ‘those who purchase’ e-scooters – including parents buying them for children. Penalties can include confiscation and fines. A two-year-old boy is fighting for his life in hospital with life-threatening injuries after falling from a house window. Emergency services rushed to the scene in Tameside, Greater Manchester, on Buttermere Road in Ashton-under-Lyne yesterday evening after reports that a child had fallen from a house window. Greater Manchester Police said the toddler was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and no arrests have been made but police are now investigating what caused the child to fall.
