The Archdiocese of San Francisco has agreed to pay nearly $400 million to settle claims brought by more than 500 survivors of childhood sexual abuse by clergy, in one of the largest settlements to emerge from the Catholic Church’s long-running abuse crisis in the United States. The agreement, announced on Monday by lawyers for the survivors, establishes a $395 million trust to compensate those who say they were abused as children by priests and others connected to the Archdiocese. One of the lead attorneys, Jeff Anderson, described it as the largest per-survivor settlement ever reached in a Catholic diocesan bankruptcy,…

Kemi Badenoch has urged Andy Burnham not to appoint Ed Miliband as Chancellor when he enters Downing Street next month, warning that handing the Energy Secretary control of the Treasury would be “a disaster for our country.” The intervention by the Conservative leader comes at an unusual moment in British politics. Burnham, the Greater Manchester mayor who won the Makerfield by-election on 18 June, is the overwhelming favourite to succeed Sir Keir Starmer, who announced his resignation as Labour leader and Prime Minister on 22 June. Under a timetable set by Labour’s National Executive Committee, the contest closes on 16…

Robbins was next to her in the fetal position and officials noticed a ‘drag path’ at the scene. An autopsy has since determined that Folds was strangled to death. Although it is unclear where her murder…
