A man was shot and killed by a Downey Police Department officer on Saturday morning, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. In a news release, the sheriff’s department said its deputies responded to the 11800 block of Downey Avenue at about 7:50am following reports of an officer-involved shooting. On arrival, deputies learned that an officer had shot a suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene and has been identified only as a man. No law enforcement officers were harmed in the incident.
It is not yet clear whether the man was armed or, if so, whether he fired first. Authorities have not said what the initial call was for, and no further details were immediately available.
