Cooler weather is settling across Chicago and the wider Chicagoland area after showers and thunderstorms moved through parts of central Illinois, with rain expected to affect southern counties on Wednesday morning.
Temperatures will fall into the low 20s Celsius, with the coolest conditions in northern parts of the region. The National Weather Service forecast a mostly cloudy day in Chicago, with a high of about 22C and a chance of further showers.
Rain is expected to remain limited across northern counties on Wednesday and Thursday, although another spell of showers is likely to develop on Thursday morning, particularly towards the south.

Showers could return on Friday as warmer air begins to move back across the area. The change will set the scene for a warmer Saturday, when temperatures are expected to reach the mid to upper 20s Celsius, with showers and thunderstorms possible.
The risk of rain is lower on Sunday but has not disappeared. A shower remains possible during the Bears game, while the wider Chicago area is expected to stay largely cloudy.
