Courteney Cox has paid tribute to her late Scream co-star Hayden Panettiere, remembering their final time working together as full of laughter and shared enjoyment.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly at the Toronto International Film Festival, where she was promoting her new film Evil Genius, Cox described Panettiere as a “really wonderful actor”.
Cox said Panettiere was fun, happy and smart, adding that the actress’s death was “really sad” and “obviously horrible”.
The pair first appeared together in 2011’s Scream 4 and reunited for Scream VI in 2023. Panettiere reprised her popular role as Kirby Reed in the later film.
Panettiere died on 16 August, aged 36, after she was found unresponsive inside a residence in South Carolina. Paramedics attempted to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Narcan was later found inside the apartment and dispatch audio referred to a possible overdose. However, her autopsy showed no signs of trauma, while her official cause and manner of death remain pending toxicology results.
