A delivery driver was forced to climb on to a wheelie bin and balance against a fence after two dogs ran towards him during a food drop in Lichfield, Staffordshire.
Video recorded on September 5 shows the man arriving with a Subway order and ringing the doorbell. When the dogs appeared, he dropped the food and ran into a neighbouring property, where he climbed on to a black bin.
He can be seen keeping one foot on the bin and the other on the fence as the barking animals gathered below him.
Lydia Starkey, 27, was in the back garden and said she had not realised her brother had ordered the delivery. She had opened the gate, allowing one of the dogs to get out, before calling for help.
Ms Starkey said her mother was feeding a newborn baby and her partner was in the shower, while her brother could not hear what was happening.
The driver then ran around to a neighbour’s front garden and climbed on to bins in an attempt to get away from the dogs. Their owner eventually emerged, apparently perplexed by the scene.
After checking that the driver was unharmed, the family said they eventually saw the funny side of the incident.
Ms Starkey said: “After making sure the driver was okay, we did find it funny. These things happen with dogs getting out.”
Footage of the encounter has been viewed more than 860,000 times online and received 5,400 likes.
One viewer joked: “Poor dog got a footlong thrown at its head!”
Another said: “Doesn’t matter if he won’t bite some people are terrified of dogs no matter how big or small… not everyone is a dog lover.”
A third commenter wrote: “I’ve never seen someone panic so much over 2 small dogs.”
Another viewer said the video had made them laugh, but added: “I’m sorry but delivery drivers take the job knowing anything could happen including dogs escaping and barking, if you got a sign on the gate saying you have dogs and he didn’t take notice he definitely can’t moan.”
