Police in the Atlanta area have arrested two alleged street racers and charged a man accused of calling 911 to avoid paying a $63 restaurant bill, while former DeKalb County Schools superintendent Devon Horton is expected to change his plea in a federal case this week.
Devon Horton expected to change plea in federal case
Horton, who led DeKalb County Schools before resigning in October 2025, is reportedly due back in court for a change-of-plea hearing. He previously pleaded not guilty to federal charges linked to alleged wire fraud, embezzlement and tax offences dating from his time as superintendent of Evanston/Skokie School District 65 in Illinois.
The US indictment alleges that Horton misused his position and district resources. Prosecutors have also sought forfeiture of property alleged to be connected to the offences. Horton remains presumed innocent unless proved guilty.
His lawyers have not publicly disclosed the terms of any proposed plea agreement.
Man accused of faking illness over Red Lobster bill
In Douglasville, police arrested Abdul Rasheed after he allegedly called 911 from a Red Lobster restaurant on September 24, claiming to be experiencing a medical emergency when his $63 bill arrived.
Officers said they found Rasheed, 26, to be well and believed the call had been made in an attempt to avoid paying for the meal. He was booked into the Douglas County Jail.
Rasheed faces charges of theft of services, unlawful conduct during a 911 call and making a false report. A local report said he was being held on a $3,000 bond. The allegations have not been tested in court. The drivers were stopped by police, although their identities, the precise location and the charges they may face have not been released.
