John Stamos has revealed that Beach Boys singer Mike Love is facing serious health problems, but remains determined to perform with his band at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
Stamos shared the update in an emotional Instagram post, saying he was travelling to Nashville for Sunday’s performance and was uncertain what the future might hold for his longtime friend.
The 85-year-old has been encouraged by doctors, family and friends to prioritise his health. However, Stamos said Love insisted he needed the support of his band, fans and friends around him.
“We hope he’ll be doing what he loves for years to come, but we don’t know what the future holds. We have tonight,” Stamos wrote.
The actor, who has performed alongside Love for 41 years, said it had been difficult to see someone he regarded as larger than life confront such a serious reality.
Stamos also warned that Love might not be able to perform in exactly the same way as before, while stressing that he remained the same person admired by his supporters.
He recalled Love’s role in officiating his wedding to Caitlin McHugh, describing the singer as a father figure, mentor and member of his family.
Stamos did not disclose details of Love’s health problems. He said he was determined to make the most of Sunday’s performance, with no certainty about what the following day might bring.
