Kylie Minogue delivered the headline performance before the AFL Grand Final at Melbourne Cricket Ground, leading a spectacular pre-game show in front of 100,000 fans.
Minogue was the first local act to headline the entertainment since Paul Kelly in 2019. Her set opened with a Melbourne schoolgirl walking on to the turf, a nod to the singer’s Australian roots.
She began with Love at First Sight, from her 2001 album Fever, before moving through In Your Eyes, Get Outta My Way, On a Night Like This and All the Lovers.
Changing from a black singlet featuring an image of herself into a short grey dress and fishnets, Minogue continued with Spinning Around as the crowd responded to a series of costume and dance breaks.
William Barton joined her on stage for Confide in Me, with Minogue adding a gold coat to her outfit. Singer-songwriter G-Flip later appeared for a performance of Padam Padam, the Grammy award-winning hit.
The show also featured brief appearances from other Australian acts. DJ Dom Dolla appeared in a safety vest, while comedy duo The Inspired Unemployed joined Minogue for The Loco-Motion.
Dancers in pink dresses, checkerboard boots and matching oversized pompoms added to the staging, forming a colourful train formation during the performance.
The MCG crowd erupted as Minogue sang “La La La La La…” while being raised above the field on a flying rig positioned over a giant inflatable Sherrin.
She ended the set with Can’t Get You Out of My Head, returning to the ground in a silver gown as fireworks marked the finale.
G-Flip had opened the pre-game entertainment on drums with Worst Person Alive, followed by Bed on Fire, which charted globally after appearing in the Amazon Prime series Off Campus.
The entertainment also included a lap of honour for retiring AFL players and individual award winners from the women’s and men’s competitions.
Mike Brady then performed his annual rendition of Up There, Cazaly. The 78-year-old singer smiled as the capacity crowd sang along to the long-standing football favourite.
