Lady Gaga has welcomed her first child with her fiancé Michael Polansky, with the couple’s daughter born via a surrogate in Los Angeles, it has been reported.
Rose Bean Polansky was born on June 9 at 11.19pm at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, according to details contained in a birth certificate obtained by TMZ.
The document names the baby as a girl and records that she was delivered by Dr Robert Katz, who has also delivered Ciara and Russell Wilson’s daughter, Sienna Princess.
It is not known why Gaga and Polansky chose surrogacy. The singer has previously spoken openly about living with fibromyalgia, a condition associated with severe pain and exhaustion.
A representative for Gaga has been contacted for comment but has not responded.
The name Rose is understood to have a personal significance for Gaga, whose maternal grandmother was Veronica Rose “Ronnie” Ferrie Bissett. The singer also has “La Vie En Rose”, the name of her song from A Star Is Born, tattooed down her spine.
News of the couple’s new arrival emerged last week after photographs were published showing Gaga and Polansky with their daughter. The singer had largely remained out of the public eye after completing her Mayhem Ball tour in April.
She was last seen publicly in August during a fan encounter in Northern California, which was documented in an Instagram selfie.
Lady Gaga had described motherhood as her “next starring role”
Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, said during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last October that she hoped motherhood would be her next major role.
“But, what I really want is to be a mom. That’s my next starring role, I hope,” she said, after being asked whether she wanted to continue acting or perform on Broadway.
Speaking to the New York Times in March 2025, Gaga said she was “excited to be a mom”, although she had previously had “a lot of apprehension about it”.
She added: “I’m also kind of at war with myself sometimes as I get ready to, hopefully, become a mom soon. Like, today is wonderful, but the whole day has revolved around me. There’s an incredible amount of narcissism in this.”
Gaga and Polansky have been together since meeting at a birthday party in Los Angeles in 2019 and became engaged in April 2024.
The singer has described Polansky as “my best friend in the whole world”, saying he had “empowered me as a woman in music with a beautiful partner that has my back every day”.
The couple have not announced when they plan to marry, although Gaga said earlier this year that they were getting married “soon”. In a previous interview, she said they had considered eloping by going to a courthouse, “just the two of us, and ordering Chinese food”.
