Justin Cooper has revealed that prisoners sent him fan mail when he was a child actor, but his mother shielded him from the letters until he was older.
Cooper, who starred in Liar Liar and played the title role in Dennis the Menace, discussed the experience in an interview on The Not So Little Rascals.
“My mom did a really good job of kind of shielding me from stuff,” he said.
His mother later told him about the prison fan mail, which included letters from inmates saying they were “such big fans” of him and that he was “such a cute kid”.
Cooper said the attention increased after the release of Jim Carrey’s Liar Liar in 1997, when he found it difficult to go out in public.
Despite the loss of privacy, the former child star said he “enjoyed it” and “thought it was cool”.
