Manchester United have stepped up their interest in Club Brugge defender Joaquin Seys as they consider long-term options at left-back.
The 21-year-old has attracted attention with his performances in Belgium and Europe, and United’s recruitment team are understood to have monitored him for some time. Enquiries have reportedly been made about his availability, with scouts present again in late September.
Seys has established himself as a regular for Club Brugge and has Champions League experience. His current contract runs until 2029, leaving the Belgian club in a strong negotiating position.
Manchester United assess Joaquin Seys option
Club Brugge would reportedly seek about €35 million (£30 million) before considering a sale. That figure could prove significant for United, particularly with the club also examining Lewis Hall, Tyrick Mitchell and Adrien Truffert as possible alternatives.
United’s interest reflects their desire to add younger competition on the left, with Luke Shaw nearing the end of his contract. Seys is regarded as a player with considerable scope for development and can operate on either side of the defence.
Club Brugge manager Ivan Leko has spoken highly of the defender’s potential. “I see Seys reaching the absolute top of the Premier League: I think he has no ceiling,” he said.
Leko also praised Seys’ talent, character and mentality, saying the youngster is often the first player to arrive and the last to leave.
United’s recruitment staff are understood to rate Seys highly, although the reported price means any move would involve a sizeable investment in a developing player. Making contact at this stage could allow the club to assess the possibility of a deal before his value rises further.
