Julie Bowen has a new boyfriend, but the Modern Family actress is keeping his identity private for now.
Bowen, 56, spoke about her relationship while attending Step Up’s 2026 Annual Inspiration Awards in Los Angeles over the weekend. She described her partner as “smart and funny”.
“I need smart and funny. Those are the two [characteristics I look for in a partner],” Bowen said. “I don’t care what people look like — though he happens to be good-looking. But I don’t care what people look like. I like the brains.”

The actress separated from Scott Phillips in 2017 after 13 years of marriage, with their divorce finalised in September 2018.
Bowen and Phillips have three children: 19-year-old son Oliver and 17-year-old twin sons Gustave and John.
Oliver is attending the University of Oregon. In September 2025, Bowen wrote about taking him to college and described leaving him as “the hardest thing a parent has the privilege of doing”.
