Football Insider reports that Burn is expected to see his playing time reduced when he returns. The former Brighton player made 44 appearances in all competitions last season, operating mainly at centre-back while also covering at left-back.
Newcastle have lowered the average age of their squad this summer, and the club views Burn’s experience as an important asset. His understanding of the club and time playing at the highest level could make him a valuable presence for the younger members of the squad.
Burn is approaching the final year of his contract, which is due to expire in June 2027. Newcastle are expected to discuss an extension with him, although any new agreement could involve the captain accepting a reduced role on the pitch.
