Oliver Hudson has spoken about the insecurity he feels when comparing his career with that of his mother, Hollywood icon Goldie Hawn.
The 50-year-old actor discussed the pressure he places on himself during the fifth-season premiere of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, which aired on Fox on Thursday.
In a confessional on the military-inspired reality programme, Hudson said: “Coming from a successful family, I wrestle with comparison. I wrestle with insecurity.”
He said Hawn’s status as an “icon” had sometimes left him feeling that he needed a greater achievement for his family to be “truly proud of me”.
Hudson grew up with Hawn and her long-term partner, Kurt Russell, alongside his siblings Kate Hudson and Wyatt Russell. He has also worked with members of his family, appearing with Russell in The Christmas Chronicles and co-hosting the podcast Sibling Revelry with Kate.
His acting career has included sitcoms and dramas, with roles in Splitting Up Together, Rules of Engagement, Nashville, Scream Queens and The Cleaning Lady.
On Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, Hudson is among 15 celebrity recruits taking part in military-style training in Malaysia. The cast includes Candace Cameron Bure, Ruby Rose, Matt Barnes, Alycia Baumgardner and Hannah Stocking.
Former special forces operatives oversee the exercises, including a challenge that requires contestants to retrieve supplies 300 feet above the jungle. There is no public vote on the programme: recruits can withdraw, be removed by directing staff, or leave because of failure or injury.
