Paris Saint-Germain have stepped up their interest in Manchester City playmaker Rayan Cherki, adding further competition for Liverpool as uncertainty continues over the Premier League club’s ongoing financial case.
Cherki has become an increasingly important figure for City since joining from Lyon. The 23-year-old recorded 25 goal contributions during his first season in Manchester and has added six more in eight appearances this campaign.
PSG interest in Rayan Cherki grows
PSG are understood to view the France international as an attractive addition to their attacking options. His technical ability is considered a strong fit for the French champions, while his nationality also aligns with the club’s preference for leading homegrown talent.
Liverpool have been monitoring Cherki’s situation, but they are not the only prominent club believed to be interested. Chelsea and Real Madrid have also been credited with keeping tabs on the former Lyon player.
City are under no immediate pressure to sell, with Cherki contracted until 2030. However, a severe sporting punishment arising from their financial case could force the club to reconsider its transfer strategy and give leading European sides an opportunity to make an approach.
Any potential deal is likely to command a substantial fee. City paid €42.5 million to sign Cherki, and his performances in England mean the club would now expect considerably more for the playmaker.
There is currently no indication that Cherki is seeking a move away from Manchester. Much may depend on the outcome of City’s appeal and the punishment, if any, ultimately imposed.
