A 21-year-old man has been charged over the alleged mistaken-identity shooting death of 40-year-old Joshua Macdonald in western Sydney.
The man was arrested in Pemulwuy at about 6am on Wednesday as police continued investigating Macdonald’s death in Merrylands West.
Macdonald was allegedly shot outside a home in Bruce Street at about 3.15pm on September 2. Police believe the attack was a case of mistaken identity.
CCTV footage from nearby shows a car arriving outside the property before several shots were fired through its rear window.
Police allege the 21-year-old drove the gunman to and from the scene. He is also accused of driving people involved in an alleged plan to destroy vehicles used in connection with the shooting.
The man has been charged with murder, participating in a criminal group contributing criminal activity and failing to comply with a digital evidence access order direction.
He was refused bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday.
Other arrests over Joshua Macdonald shooting
The charges follow those brought against 18-year-old Jimmy Schulz and 28-year-old Ashleigh Ann Seeney.
Schulz was arrested in West Hoxton on September 11 after evidence recovered during the investigation allegedly implicated him in the shooting. He has been charged with murder and remains before the courts.
Seeney, a physical education teacher at Airds High School who has since been stood down, was first arrested at a unit in Wollongong. Police allege she conducted surveillance for those involved in the shooting and helped them escape afterwards.
She was initially charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder, participating in a criminal group and failing to comply with a digital evidence access order. She was granted bail.
Seeney was arrested again on Tuesday and charged with three further offences, including conspiracy to murder, participating in a criminal group and failing as an owner to disclose the identity of a driver or passenger.
Her previous bail was revoked when she appeared in court on Wednesday. She will remain in custody until her next court appearance on November 19.
Investigations into Macdonald’s death are continuing.
