Alyssa Thompson’s goal gave Chelsea a 1-0 victory over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge, ending the Gunners’ 20-match unbeaten run in the Women’s Super League.
Arsenal made the stronger start but were unable to turn their early pressure into a lead. Kim Little and Mariona Caldentey both struck the post before Chelsea found the breakthrough.
Anneke Borbe initially kept out Keira Walsh’s effort from distance, but Thompson reacted quickest to the rebound and finished emphatically from inside the box.
Arsenal improved after the interval, with Chloe Kelly’s angled drive blocked and Alessia Russo seeing a shot charged down. Chelsea defended the closing stages effectively to secure a third WSL win.
The result ends an unbeaten Arsenal run stretching back to October 2025, after the Gunners had drawn their previous two league matches.
Chelsea move to within two points of league leaders Manchester City, while Arsenal are now seven points off the top before their meeting with the champions on October 4.
