Tina Arena has spoken for the first time about her ex-husband, convicted rapist Ralph Carr, at the Melbourne International Film Festival.
The Chains singer, 58, didn’t hold back during an audience Q&A at The Astor Theatre following the world premiere of her documentary Tina Arena: Unravel Me.
‘Divine intervention happens, I believe in divine intervention I really do,’ Arena told guests following a deafening standing ovation.
‘I also believe in karma. I believe in what you put out you get back.
‘You reap what you sow so now he’s reaping what he sowed,’ she continued.
‘I believe that justice has been done and the right thing has happened.’

Arena went on to praise Carr’s rape victim, who remains legally anonymous, for her ‘unbelievable courage’ in ‘unbelievably complicated circumstances’.
‘The thing that is most important, I don’t know who the young lady that came forward is, I don’t know her name, I have never met her,’ she said.
‘My heart goes out to her, to her mum, her family for having the unbelievable courage to come forward in unbelievably complicated circumstances.
‘So first and foremost a big thank you to you, whoever you are darling, wherever you are, a big thank you, not only from me but a big thank you from a lot of people.’
Earlier in the night, Arena said she ‘couldn’t give a shit’ about her ex-husband when the Herald Sun approached her for comment on the red carpet.
‘This is about me,’ she told the publication. ‘I don’t care about him. Couldn’t give a sh*t.’
Carr was married to Arena for four years, from 1995 to 1999, after managing her early career and transition from teen performer.
He remained active in the entertainment industry until his remand and has represented performers such as Kate Ceberano and Richard Wilkins.

He was also famous for his business associations as agent for AFL champion Dustin Martin and hit singer Vanessa Amorosi.
Tina has previously described her marriage to Carr as ‘disgraceful’ and said she ‘went back to zero’ financially as a consequence of it.
She added that it was ‘a wonderful business transaction, from his perspective’.
Arena wrote in her autobiography, Now I Can Dance, that she felt ‘disconnected from’ Carr on their wedding day.
She also said they had a disagreement when she refused to sell photos of the ceremony to a women’s magazine.

Carr’s victim faced giving evidence to a jury for six days, including cross-examination from defence in closed court.
He was ultimately found guilty of assaulting the woman at his Melbourne home in the early hours of March 24, 2023, after she discussed work with him and became emotional about her recent break-up.
Carr was found guilty by a jury of nine women and three men, who took fewer than three days to return unanimous verdicts.
He will remain in custody until a pre-sentence hearing at a later date.
