The White House has joked about Travis Kelce being a victim of a Ponzi scheme, suggesting the Kansas City Chiefs player could be recruited to its task force tackling fraud.
Responding to reports that Kelce had been defrauded by Siddharth Jawahar, the White House wrote on X: “This is why we do what we do.”
It added: “Seems like a good time to re-up the work of the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud: identifying fraud & protecting Americans. Oh and it looks like the next draft pick to join the Task Force is [Travis Kelce].”
Kelce was among the investors prosecutors said had been deceived by Jawahar, who raised money through his company, Swiftarc Capital LLC.
Prosecutors said Jawahar used investors’ money to fund a lavish lifestyle, including expensive hotels, private planes and costly nights out. He was accused of taking $35 million in total from victims.
Jawahar pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 11 years in prison. He was also ordered to repay $31 million to those affected.
It remains unclear how much money Kelce allegedly lost in the scheme.
