Julian Alvarez is reportedly seriously considering changing agents after a turbulent transfer saga over his future at Atletico Madrid.
The Argentina international ultimately remained in the Spanish capital, despite links with both Arsenal and Barcelona during the summer window. Atletico were said to be unhappy with how the situation unfolded and reportedly blamed Alvarez’s representatives.
Reports from Mundo Deportivo suggest the 26-year-old could end his relationship with agent Fernando Hidalgo. Javier Pastore has been mentioned as a possible replacement.
Why Julian Alvarez could change agents
A change in representation could indicate that Alvarez is seeking an adviser better placed to secure the move he wants in the future. It may also reflect a desire to ease tensions with Atletico after the club’s reported frustration over the transfer speculation.
It remains unclear whether the proposed switch will go ahead, or what its implications would be for Alvarez’s long-term position at Atletico Madrid.
Arsenal were understood to be monitoring the situation and waiting to see whether Alvarez could be persuaded to join them if Barcelona failed to complete a deal. However, the report suggests the Gunners were never close to securing his signature.
Mikel Arteta’s side continue to have an interest in Eli Junior Kroupi, with a move for the Bournemouth forward described as a more realistic option. Kroupi is younger than Alvarez and would represent a longer-term investment.
Arsenal could alternatively retain Kai Havertz, who has started the season in strong form after moving beyond his injury problems.
