The AFL grand final at the MCG is set to be played in markedly colder and wetter conditions, with temperatures expected to sit around 13C or 14C for much of Saturday afternoon.
Melbourne will enjoy warmer weather beforehand, reaching 26C on both Thursday and Friday. Sunshine is forecast on Thursday, while cloud is expected to build on Friday before a cool change arrives late in the afternoon.
The change will bring the chance of showers and a possible storm ahead of the grand final. Colder air will move in early on Saturday, keeping the maximum temperature to 17C.
A cold southerly wind, frequent showers and periods of steadier rain are expected throughout the day, with up to 10mm possible. The conditions are likely to make for a raw afternoon at the MCG.

The shift is being driven by a trough and cold front moving through late Friday and into early Saturday, alongside a feed of moisture stretching across the continent.
That combination is expected to bring rain which has travelled from Western Australia, with the timing coinciding with the AFL grand final.
Those heading to the ground have been advised to prepare for winter-like conditions, with layers and a waterproof jacket likely to be useful. The warmth on Friday is not expected to continue into grand final day.
Showers should remain on Sunday morning before clearing, with more settled conditions forecast for Monday and Tuesday.
