Angie Katsanevas has spoken about her split from husband Shawn Trujillo, saying she never imagined the couple would grow apart after 27 years together.
The 52-year-old Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star and Trujillo were revealed to have separated in July. Their relationship is now being addressed in the latest season of the Bravo reality series.
Asked whether she had ever expected their marriage to end, Katsanevas told E! News: “Never in a million years.”
“No, it’s a hard thing to go through when you’re questioning your future and what that looks like for you as a couple,” she added.
Katsanevas said her Greek Orthodox faith had also shaped her belief that the marriage would last. “In my religion or faith, you’re together forever,” she said, explaining that this had been her goal when she married Trujillo.
The couple, who run a salon business together, share a 15-year-old daughter, Elektra. Katsanevas said she intended to remain open about the difficulties in her personal life, both on the programme and away from television.
“We’re facing challenges,” she said. “I’m always honest about what I’m going through, what I’m dealing with at home.”
“You’re not only facing these challenges at home, but you have to share them with the world,” she added. “So I just do my best to be vulnerable, honest and real.”
Katsanevas also said she would not immediately follow co-star Bronwyn Newport’s approach to dating after a separation, describing herself as “a little old school” and saying she would probably wait until everything was official.
