Arsenal face uncertainty over Julian Alvarez’s future as the club continues to assess whether a move for the Atletico Madrid forward can be completed before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, while Borussia Dortmund consider a loan approach for Ethan Nwaneri.
Alvarez is understood to favour a move to Barcelona, but Atletico have made clear they will not negotiate with their La Liga rivals. The club’s board has unanimously backed that position, leaving Arsenal as the most credible alternative should the Argentina international decide to leave Madrid.
Arsenal remain interested in the 26-year-old, although the player’s preference for Barcelona has complicated the Gunners’ pursuit. Atletico are reluctant to sell and Alvarez is under contract until 2030, meaning any agreement would require a substantial financial commitment.
The situation has left the striker’s next move unresolved in the final days of the window. Reports in Spain suggest Alvarez is increasingly facing the prospect of staying at Atletico, but Arsenal have continued to monitor developments in case his position changes.
Ethan Nwaneri loan interest
Dortmund are also weighing up whether to pursue a loan deal for Nwaneri, who spent the second half of last season at Marseille after struggling to secure regular first-team football in north London.
Arsenal are understood to prefer a temporary move for the 19-year-old rather than a permanent sale. The club believes regular senior football would benefit his development, while retaining control over one of its most highly regarded academy graduates.
Nwaneri is said to favour remaining in the Premier League if he leaves Arsenal, which could complicate Dortmund’s plans. Fulham and Everton have previously been linked with the midfielder, while AC Milan and RB Leipzig have also shown interest.
With the deadline approaching, Arsenal must decide whether Nwaneri is better served by another loan or by remaining with Mikel Arteta’s squad. His prospects could also be influenced by whether the club succeeds in adding Alvarez or another attacking player before the window shuts.
