Arsenal’s summer pursuit of Vinicius Junior has been confirmed by assistant coach Miguel Molina, who said the Real Madrid forward was discussed as a potential target for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Vinicius was strongly linked with a move to north London, but ultimately remained at the Bernabeu after signing a new contract with the Spanish club.
Speaking to Marca, Molina was asked about the Brazil international’s place in Arsenal’s transfer plans. He replied: “Yes, of course. Obviously, I can’t stray from the facts, but he [Vinicius] was a name that was on the table, yes.”
Arsenal transfer pursuit of Vinicius Junior ends without a deal
The 26-year-old would have provided Arsenal with the pace, individual skill and attacking threat that have been identified as important qualities for the club’s forward line.
However, Vinicius has not made the strongest start to the season, meaning some Arsenal supporters may believe the club avoided committing significant funds to a deal that did not materialise.
The pursuit nevertheless represented a substantial investment of time and effort during a difficult transfer window for Arsenal. The club also missed out on Morgan Rogers and Julian Alvarez as it explored ambitious attacking options.
