Martin Odegaard is expected to sign a new Arsenal contract as the club moves to secure the future of the captain who has become central to Mikel Arteta’s project.
Talks over improved terms are understood to be progressing positively, despite the Norway international’s current agreement running until 2028. Arsenal are keen to ensure his contract does not become a point of uncertainty.
Martin Odegaard new contract talks progressing
A report on Arsenal’s contract plans says Odegaard is keen to commit his long-term future to the club. His potential renewal follows Arteta’s decision to extend his own stay with the Premier League champions.
Odegaard is regarded as one of the key figures in the group that helped Arsenal end their long wait for the title last season. Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber are also expected to discuss new contracts as the club seeks to retain the core of its squad.
The 27-year-old has returned to his best form this season after injury problems disrupted the previous campaign. He remains Arsenal captain and continues to occupy a prominent place in Arteta’s plans.
There has been no serious indication that Odegaard wants to leave, with both the player and the club understood to be satisfied with the direction of the project.
Arteta has previously made clear how highly he values his captain, describing him as “exceptional for us”. The Arsenal manager has also praised Odegaard’s daily contribution, leadership and influence on the pitch.
Odegaard’s importance extends beyond his creativity in midfield. He has developed from a Real Madrid loanee into the captain of a Premier League-winning side and is viewed as one of the players most closely associated with the current Arsenal era.
After securing Arteta’s future, tying down Odegaard, Rice and Timber for their prime years would provide another indication of Arsenal’s intention to maintain the squad that delivered their first title of the project.
