David and Victoria Beckham were among the proud family members watching from the side of the stage as their son Cruz made his Reading Festival debut with his band, The Breakers.
The 21-year-old musician performed at The Canopy at 3.25pm on Saturday, August 29, during a landmark year that has seen him tour in the UK, Europe and North America.
Despite heavy rain at Richfield Avenue, David and Victoria remained at the performance, with Victoria keeping her sunglasses on as she watched her youngest son. Cruz’s brother Romeo, sister Harper and his girlfriend Jackie Apostel were also present.
A festivalgoer told the Daily Mail that the family had gathered to support Cruz, adding that Victoria had been affectionate towards David as they watched the set.
Apostel had signalled her support earlier in the day by sharing a photograph of herself wearing a bright yellow T-shirt bearing the words: “Cruz Beckham sang to me.”
Cruz’s appearance came shortly after the release of his debut EP, Wear & Tear, which arrived on August 21. The six-track record was made with The Breakers and includes “Dumb Down”, “Wear & Tear”, “Better Times”, “Loneliest Boy”, “WANNABE” and “Seeing Red”.
According to Universal Music Canada, the songs were selected partly in response to feedback and discussions with fans during Cruz’s recent tours. The EP was produced by Justin Raisen and Lewis Pesacov, who have previously worked with artists including Kim Gordon, Joji and Charli XCX.
Cruz has described the record as reflecting “a life lived”, covering positive and difficult experiences as well as the lessons learned along the way. He has also said he hopes the music will show how people with different backgrounds can still share the same emotions.
The singer-songwriter began his first headline tour, the For Your Love Tour, earlier this year. The run included sold-out dates across the UK and Europe before he travelled to North America, following the release of his single “For Your Love”.
The Breakers’ Reading appearance was officially listed as part of the festival’s 2026 programme, which runs from August 27 to 30. The group is due to continue to Leeds on Sunday.
Cruz was one of several musicians with famous parents appearing at the festival this weekend. Gene Gallagher, the 25-year-old son of Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher and singer Nicole Appleton, performed with his band Villanelle, while Moses Martin, the 20-year-old son of Coldplay singer Chris Martin and actor Gwyneth Paltrow, appeared with indie-pop group People I’ve Met.
Dave Grohl’s daughter Violet is also scheduled to perform at Reading on Sunday.
The appearances have drawn attention because the festival’s new Canopy stage has replaced the long-running BBC Introducing stage, which helped showcase emerging artists for almost two decades.
Festival Republic, which runs Reading and Leeds, said the new stage was intended to give opportunities to a wider pool of developing musicians. The company said artists could be independent or signed and could have entered the industry through a variety of routes.
The change has nevertheless prompted debate among festivalgoers and musicians, given the number of performers with prominent family connections appearing on the stage.
For Cruz, however, the weekend marked another step in an increasingly busy schedule. Following the festival dates, he is expected to continue promoting Wear & Tear with further performances linked to the EP’s release.
