Car influencer James Wehr has died aged 27 after the McLaren he was reportedly driving crashed and caught fire in Irvine, California.
The 2019 sports car was travelling at a high rate of speed early on Sunday when Wehr lost control, hit a kerb and then collided with a tree, according to police and media reports. A passenger was also killed in the crash.
Irvine police officers and Orange County firefighters responded to reports of a vehicle fire. Once the blaze had been extinguished, officers found Wehr and the unidentified passenger inside the car.
Wehr co-owned South OC Cars and Coffee with his father, Simon. The organisation announced his death on Instagram, describing him as their “darling son” in a post featuring the pair smiling with their arms around each other.
His wife, Emma, also paid tribute to him, writing that he was “genuinely one of the best people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing”.
