Celtic have agreed a deal to sign PSV Eindhoven midfielder Joel van den Berg and revived their pursuit of Torino’s Gvidas Gineitis, while Rangers striker target Kevin Kelsy undergoes a medical ahead of his proposed move to Ibrox.
Van den Berg, a 19-year-old Netherlands Under-19 international, is expected in Glasgow to complete the formalities of a transfer worth about £3.4 million. He is understood to be in line for a contract until 2030, subject to passing his medical.
The midfielder has made only a handful of first-team appearances for PSV but has impressed for Jong PSV in the Dutch second tier. Celtic see him as a potential replacement for Arne Engels, who joined West Ham United earlier this month.
The Scottish champions have also submitted a fresh offer for Gineitis, according to Italian transfer reporter Matteo Moretto. Torino are considering the proposal, with reports suggesting the Serie A club would seek a fee of about £8.5 million to £10 million for the Lithuania international.
Celtic’s renewed activity comes as manager Martin O’Neill looks to add greater physicality and depth to his midfield before the Scottish transfer window closes at 5pm on Thursday, September 3.
At Ibrox, Kelsy is completing the final stage of a move from Major League Soccer side Portland Timbers. Rangers have agreed a deal worth around £9 million, potentially rising with add-ons, for the 22-year-old Venezuela international.
Kelsy was left out of Portland’s squad for their defeat by Austin FC on Sunday as arrangements for his transfer progressed. He scored 16 goals in 43 appearances for the Timbers and is expected to become Rangers’ 13th signing of the summer if the move is completed.
Rangers have been seeking another forward since Youssef Chermiti suffered a serious knee injury. Kelsy’s arrival could also allow Bojan Miovski to leave the club before the deadline, with the North Macedonia striker attracting interest from elsewhere in Europe.
